Thanks, Universe!
I believe that when we’re confused about situations in life and we don’t know what to do, the universe gives us hints to help us find the right answer. The hints start out small, but if we don’t catch them and are still confused, the universe gives us bigger hints until we recognize them and use the hints to figure out the right thing to do.
As I mentioned in About Me, I hate my awesome job, and I want to quit, but I haven’t yet figured out if that is what I should do. I think the universe has given me little hints that I should leave this job, such as decreased flexibility with my schedule (one of my favorite things about my job) and job offers from other companies. However, the universe must be getting frustrated with my indecisiveness and lack of action because it just gave me a big hint, so big I could almost feel it shoving me in the right direction.
I just found out that my boss, who I love (in a professional kind of way), respect and trust, took $40,000 for work that I did. It was really an accident that I even found out, something I’m sure he was counting on not happening, but to me, the “accident” was the universe giving me the big hint that I needed to get myself out of a bad situation.
My boss and I have developed a great working relationship (I thought). We’ve come to respect each other’s work and role within the company (I thought), and although I’m an independent contractor, he’s delegated a lot of his responsibilities to me. In fact, in the last six months, I’ve done nearly all his work since he recently started his own business and has been spending all his time and energy on that. Although I’m not entirely comfortable being his “ghost” employee, since I don’t think the owners of the company know the extent of my involvement in my boss’ projects, I’ve been willing to take on more work and responsibility for myself to further both my work experience and my paycheck. However, I was not expecting my boss to continue accepting payments for projects that he had given to me and hadn’t done himself. I was blindsided.
That was the big hint that I needed from the universe, and now there’s no question what I should do. I need to quit this job. The three best things about my job, the things that made it hard to leave, were the flexibility with my schedule, great money, and a great boss. All three of those things just went up in smoke. Since I’ve taken on my boss’ work as well as my own, I’m too busy to have a flexible schedule now, I’m being cheated out of money that I earned, and I now know that my boss has been using me to do his work and make him money. One by one, the three biggest benefits of my job just vanished, and now, thanks to hints from the universe, I can finally see clearly the path that I should take.
That path is leading me straight out of this company and towards…something great. I don’t know exactly where the path will take me, but whether I get a job with a new company, change careers, or start my own business, I now feel confident that I’m making the right decision. The combination of my experience with the company and hints from the universe makes me certain that it’s time for me to move on, and knowing that, I’m excited for what lies ahead in my future. Thanks, Universe!
